Four Named To Pac-10 All-Academic Squad
Stanford was well-represented with three honorees among the women's tennis All-Pac-10 squad, as the selections were voted on by the league coaches. The Cardinal has placed at least three players on the team for the ninth straight season. Highlighting the Cardinal's three selections was Hilary Barte, who was named Pac-10 Freshman of the Year while also earning a spot on the First Team.

Barte, Clayton Named to USTA Summer Collegiate Team

Freshman All-Americans Hilary Barte and Alex Clayton have both earned spots on the six-person USTA Summer Collegiate Team, as announced by the USTA and Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Thursday morning. The USTA Summer Collegiate Team is an elite training program for the top American collegiate tennis players that began in 1996 and is funded by the USTA. It is designed to provide college players with valuable exposure to the USTA Pro Circuit in a team-oriented environment during the summer months.

Stanford women's tennis was well-represented with four selections on the 2008 Pac-10 All-Academic team, announced today by Commissioner Tom Hansen. Seniors Whitney Deason (3.59 - Political Science) and Celia Durkin (3.54 - German Studies) were named to the First Team while junior Jessica Nguyen (3.29 - Economics) and sophomore Lindsay Burdette (3.00 - Undeclared) were recognized as Honorable Mention.

Women's Tennis Honored With Three All-Americans

For the ninth straight season, at least three members of the Stanford women's tennis team have earned All-America honors as announced by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA). Junior Jessica Nguyen and sophomore Lindsay Burdette were both honored for the second time in their career while freshman Hilary Barte is a first-time recipient. Barte was one of nine players to earn All-America recognition in both singles and doubles.

Freshman Hilary Barte's impressive rookie campaign came to a surprising end on Thursday afternoon, as the 5-5 lefty was defeated 6-3, 6-2 by Baylor's Lenka Broosova in the round of 32 at the NCAA Singles Championship. Stanford's top doubles team of Barte and sophomore Lindsay Burdette also suffered a defeat on Thursday, dropping a first round match to William & Mary's Megan Moulton-Levy and Katarina Zoricic by a 7-6 (3), 6-2 count.

Barte Named ITA National Rookie of the Year

Freshman Hilary Barte was unexpectedly pushed to three sets for the first time since early April, but managed to prevail in a 4-6, 6-2, 6-0 victory over UNLV's Elena Gantcheva on Wednesday afternoon in the opening round of the NCAA Singles Championship at Tulsa, Okla. Meanwhile, junior Jessica Nguyen suffered a 6-1, 6-3 defeat to Miami's Laura Vallverdu in her first round match.
