Three Cardinal Athletes Earn ESPN Academic All-America Honors

Three Stanford athletes were named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America Men's At-Large First Team when the selections were announced today. Senior Tanner Gardner of the wrestling team, senior Sandy Hohener of the men's water polo team and senior Dylan Carney of the men's gymnastics team were three of the nation's 15 first-team honorees.

Stanford men's gymnastics head coach Thom Glielmi has announced his incoming class for the 2008-09 year. The class of '12 features four high school standouts from around the nation who have chosen to attend Stanford in the fall. Three hail from the East Coast, John Martin (Gainesville, Fla./Trilogy HS), Gabriel Alvarado (Miami, Fla./ HS), and Jordan Nolff (Millburn, N.J./Millburn HS), while one is a native of the Midwest, Cameron Foreman (Iowa City, Iowa/Iowa City HS).

Four Stanford athletes were named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District At-Large Teams when the selections were announced earlier this week. Tanner Gardner of the wrestling team, Sandy Hohener of the men's water polo team and Dylan Carney of the men's gymnastics team were first-team picks on the men's at-large list for District VIII, while Elaine Breeden of the women's swimming team was a District VIII Second Team pick on the women's side.

Sender Wins All-Around Title At 2008 Visa U.S. Championships

Senior David Sender took another step towards realizing his dream of competing in the Olympics as the Arlington Heights, Ill. native won the men's all-around title at the 2008 Visa Championships tonight at Reliant Park in Houston. Sender, who also took top honors in the vault, is one of 14 men who will advance to the U.S. Olympic Team Trials - Gymnastics, July 19-22, in Philadelphia.

Seven Stanford Gymnasts Competing At the Visa U.S. Championships

Seven Stanford gymnasts began preliminary all-around competition tonight at the Visa U.S Championships at Reliant Park in Houston, Texas, hoping to prove why they should earn one of the six spots on the U.S. roster for the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing, China. Out of 41 participants, four of the seven Cardinal gymnasts finished in the top half in the field of competitors. All seven will participate in Saturday night's finals.

Three Stanford Athletes Earn Winter NCAA Postgraduate Scholarships

Three Stanford athletes were among the 58 NCAA student-athletes to be awarded educational grants through the NCAA postgraduate scholarship program announced the NCAA today. Tanner Gardner of the Stanford wrestling team, Dylan Carney of the Stanford men's gymnastics team and Josh Hustedt of the Stanford track and field squad were among the 29 male winners for winter.
