Ian Dobson ('05) Makes U.S. Olympic Track And Field Team In The 5,000 Meters

Eugene, Ore.- The U.S. Olympic Track and Field Trials continued on Monday evening with several Stanford competitors. The Cardinal were highlighted by Ian Dobson ('05) who used a strong final kick to hold on for third place in the 5,000 meters to qualify for the U.S. Olympic Team. Dobson overcame a loaded field in the event to make his first Olympic Team. Dobson ran a time of 13:29.76 and will join World Champion Bernard Lagat and Matt Tegenkemp on the U.S. 5,000 meter team.

Eugene, Ore.- Two weeks after capturing the NCAA title in the triple jump, Erica McLain qualified for the U.S. Olympic Team by placing third at the U.S. Olympic Track and Field Trials. McLain will now head to Beijing, China to compete in the 2008 Summer Olympic Games.

Eugene, Ore.- The U.S. Olympic Trials for track and field get underway on Friday, June 27 from Hayward Field with a strong Stanford presence. 15 Cardinal alums and six current Stanford student-athletes will compete for the chance to represent the United States at the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing, China. The ten day competition concludes Sunday, July 6.

Erica McLain Captures The NCAA Title In The Triple Jump

Des Moines, Iowa- On the final day of the NCAA Track & Field Championships, Erica McLain won the national title in the triple jump. McLain earned her second All-America honor of the meet to lead the Stanford women to a sixth place finish. The Stanford women finished with 31 points, trailing the national champs from LSU with 67 points.

Des Moines, Iowa- The Stanford women continued their great meet with two more All-Americans being crowned and the Cardinal sitting in third place. The Cardinal women have totaled 21 points in three days of competition to trail only Arizona State with 36 points and LSU with 31.

Des Moines, Iowa- The Stanford women have established an early lead at the NCAA Championships after two events scored. The Cardinal women have 11 points to lead the second place tie between Mississippi and Iowa State with ten. Both the men's and women's teams also had several athletes move through the prelims of their events to qualify for the finals that will comprise most of the last two days of competition.
